Teeling Small Batch Sommelier Selection Series

At Teeling Whiskey we believe in driving the evolution of Irish Whiskey through the creation of new and unique expressions. As part of this innovative mission we have developed a series called the Sommelier Selection, an evolution of the Small Batch Collaboration  series aimed at capturing the flavours from some of the world’s most renowned wine regions. The first two releases saw us explore the influence that French Margaux and Sauternes wine casks had on our Small Batch blend while the latest two releases saw how Italian Amarone and Recioto casks work with our Teeling Small Batch blend. The fifth and latest release in this series, sees us turn our attention towards Portugal and how its famous wines can work alongside our Small Batch.

This fifth release in the series draws on our desire to innovate using the finest Portuguese wine barrels. For this release we have selected, ex-Red Wine Casks from the Douro region in Northern Portugal to create an expression unique to Irish Whiskey. Douro is a style  of Portuguese wine that comes from the Old Vines that are usually more than 25 years old found in the northern region of Portugal. Douro Old Vines are notoriously vibrant and full bodied with rich notes of deep black fruits and wood spice. This limited edition whiskey has captured the distinctive plum, acidity and tannins from the Douro Old Vines casks and paired them beautifully with the floral and fruit notes of the Teeling Small Batch. The result is celebration of the impact of the unique character of the Douro Old Vines wine and is truly and Irish Whiskey to savour!

Plum, blackberry and dates with a hint of spice

Taste

Black pepper and oak tannins balanced with sour cherries and rich dark fruits

Finish

Long finish with dry tannins and warming spice
