about us
Located in the heart of the historic Liberties, against the backdrop of a city steeped in whiskey history, the Teeling Whiskey Distillery opened its doors in 2015 as the first new distillery in Dublin for over 125 years. Since opening, the Teeling Distillery has won over 20 awards, including “Best Visit in Ireland” at the 2019 CIE Awards and “Sustainable Distillery of the Year” at the 2022 Icons of Whisky Awards.
the Teeling family
Whiskey making and entrepreneurship have been in the Teeling genes since as far back as 1782 when Walter Teeling set up a small craft distillery on Marrowbone Lane in Dublin city. Since 2012, Jack and Stephen Teeling, the latest generation of Teeling Whiskey makers, have been putting their own mark on Irish whiskey and came full circle in 2015 when they proudly opened the new Teeling Whiskey Distillery just down the road from where the original family distillery once stood. The Teeling Whiskey Distillery today is the first new distillery in Dublin for over 125 years.
Our Story
We are situated just a stone’s throw from our ancestral distillery in the Golden Triangle, the historic distilling district of the city. Since opening our doors in 2015 our fully guided tours have offered visitors the chance to explore a fully operational distillery and experience the complete whiskey-making process from milling and mashing to the maturation of our award-winning Irish whiskey.
our craft
Here at Teeling Whiskey, we are renowned for our vision of doing things differently. Our whiskeys embody this unconventional spirit, with innovation at the core of everything we do. For us, it’s what’s inside the bottle that counts – we let the liquid do the talking, and our liquid has plenty to say.
The delicate base of Irish whiskey is the perfect canvas upon which to layer flavour and character. Varying the time, style and number of barrels used during the maturation process adds to the subtlety and complexity of flavour we pride ourselves on. Now that we have our own Dublin distilled spirit coming of age, our ingenuity is the only limitation to the unique styles and expressions we can craft in the future.
After putting all this care and attention to what goes into our whiskey, we don’t like to take anything out. We don’t chill filter our whiskey prior to bottling, letting us leave as much of the body, character and richness in the bottle as possible. We bring our whiskey from cask strength to our signature ABV of 46%, allowing us to bottle with no chill filtration, maintaining the true natural character of all Teeling Whiskeys.
Sustainable Distillery
of the Year
Sustainability is core to Teeling Whiskey Distillery’s philosophy across all operations, and we are constantly trying to lead the Irish whiskey category when it comes to our sustainable efforts. Our distillery was recently awarded the top honour of ‘Sustainable Distillery of the Year’ at Whisky Magazine’s 2022 Icons of Irish Whiskey Awards.
The company sources sustainable raw materials and implements sustainable production processes where possible. Initiatives to date include the installation of a rainwater harvesting system in our distillery, the use of an onsite well to reduce water consumption, and energy optimisation measures such as the harnessing of excess energy produced during the production process to heat our visitor centre.
We are very proud to be a verified Origin Green member. This pioneering programme remains the world’s only national food and drinks sustainability programme that drives sustainability improvements across the entire supply chain on a national level. It enables Ireland’s food industry to set and achieve measurable sustainability targets that respect the environment and serve local communities more effectively; it is about measuring and improving on an ongoing basis.
Independent accreditation and verification are built into every stage of the supply chain. This plan outlines robust, measurable targets which are relevant to our business in three key areas, namely raw material sourcing, manufacturing processes, and social sustainability. Wherever possible, we work with fellow Origin Green members. For example, we source our malted barley from Minch Malt (Boortmalt Ireland), and our unmalted barley comes from Glanbia, both of whom are Origin Green certified.
