Teeling Whiskey supports local charities with money raised from Pot Still Auction
2018 has been a landmark year for everyone involved with Teeling Whiskey but one of the most rewarding experiences of the last twelve months has been what we have been able to achieve with the funds raised from our charity auction of the first release from our new distillery.
When we first opened our distillery in 2015, a core goal of ours was to be a good resident within the community and help with the overall rejuvenation of our neighbourhood. Our distillery is based in the Liberties area of Dublin City. It’s a very historic area that was made famous as the industrial engine of Dublin city and was the home to large Dublin distilleries until the last distillery closed its doors in the 1970s. Despite its central location and rich provenance, it was an area devoid of investment for many years. However, this has begun to change over the last few years, and we are very proud to be associated with the revival of such an important part of Dublin. In our efforts to be able to give something back, we have been donating a percentage of all our admissions to local charities on an annual basis since we opened to the public in 2015.
However, this year we had a very unique opportunity to go a step further. With our first new Dublin distilled whiskey coming of age, we partnered with www.whiskyauctioneer.com to auction off the first 100 bottles of a special Teeling Whiskey Celebratory Single Pot Still release, with all profits raised being donated to charitable causes based near our distillery. The auction ran from the 31st of August until the 10th of September with bottle No. 1 securing a world record price of £10,000, making it the most expensive bottle of whiskey ever sold at auction for a new distillery. All 100 bottles sold at auction, achieving an average per bottle price of £600, excluding bottle #1.
Over the last few weeks we have had the pleasure to present the selected very worthy charities, supporting a range of different great causes, with their donations. Shannon’s Hopeline was set up by the mother of Shannon Kelleher who died by Suicide in January 2012 at the very young age of 13. Shannon’s passing was a complete shock to her family and the whole community. Shannon never mentioned suicide and signs of suicidal ideation went unnoticed. Teeling Whiskey are thrilled to be helping a great cause whose mission is to support and educate young people on the importance of looking after their mental health. Aiming to prevent suicide by creating in them a sense of hope, strength and confidence.
